Supervisors are working to learn how a pipeline from paradise to chico would impact the groundwater.
Action news now reporter amy lanski shows us where the pipeline would be -- and what it would mean for people rebuilding on the ridge.
The study is to figure out the possibility of having a pipeline run from up here in paradise..
Down the skyway and into chico.
There are two reasons county officials say this option could be the best one for getting water into chico - people who live in the area are happy something is being done victoria sinclair - lives in paradise: "you share resources as we are going back and forth trying to rebuild a community."
Victoria sincalir - lives in paradise she says this is a great way to help.
Paul gosselin - butte county "so the project entails bringing paradise irrigation water, treated water down the skyway and connecting into the cal water service area for the chico area."
Paul gosselin from butte county department of water and resource conservation says this will provide a customer base for the paradise irrigation district.
"so as the town rebuilds the paradise irrigation district needs to utilize that asset and have a way to stay viable while the town rebuilds."
Gosselin says this will provide them customers through cal water.
He added the other benefit is to the city of chico... reducing the demand of ground water.
"cal water and the city of chico and the whole vina subbasin is 100% dependent on ground water and as we look towards putting programs and projects together to sustain the basin one of the other things we are looking at is how can we better utilize surface water in ground water dependent areas."

In order for them to meet the responsibility they have to have money coming from somewhere."
"as with living up there you have to be flexible so for us and our community you have to be flexible and share resources to be able to come back from this."
The study costs 143 thousand dollars.
The money is coming from a state grant... cal water service... and paradise irrigation district.
