Williamson will miss at least the first 20 games of the regular season.
New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry thought Williamson injured his knee on Oct.
13 against the San Antonio Spurs.
Williamson did not travel with the team for the Pelicans' final preseason game against the New York Knicks.
Williamson averaged 23.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot 71.4% in four preseason games.
The former Duke forward was drafted by the Pelicans with the No.
1 overall pick in June's NBA Draft.
