Developing tonight... just three days before the anniversary of the japanese attack on pearl harbor...the hawaii base was on lockdown today... as an active shooter shot three people...then killed himself.

And we just learned minutes ago...two of those three people have now also died.

A source tells c-n-n the shooter was an active on duty, military guard.

Officials say he shot three civilian department of defense workers then turned the gun on himself.

This happened around 2:30 local time...which is 7:30 for us.

The base was locked down, but opened again around 9 p-m eastern time.

The u-s navy says it will lead the investigation into what happened.

### at home, sheriff's deputies are still searching tonight for one of two suspects who led them on a chase through two counties....starting in laurel county on kentucky 30 and ending in a field in jackson county.

According to the sheriff's office, this morning a deputy saw a gold s-u-v going 70 miles an hour in a 55.

When that deputy tried to pull the s- u-v over, he says it started going over 100 miles per hour about 8 miles into jackson county.

It then apparently intentionally went into a ditch line...up a bank...crashing through three fences...and finally stopping in a field at a heavily wooded area... where the two suspects got out and ran.

Deputies say one of those men violently assaulted them before they were able to arrest him.

His name hasn't been released.

The other suspect is still on the run.

A floyd county mother is accused of stabbing her 4- month-old son..

Then trying to keep paramedics from helping the baby.

According to the lexington herald- leader newspaper... 38-year-old katherine stepp showed up drunk at a family gathering on thanksgiving with the baby.

The newspaper reports she then began saying everyone was trying to kill the baby.

Family members saw the baby bleeding and spotted a stab wound on his calf.

When paramedics arrived, the newspaper says stepp wouldn't allow them to treat the baby.

She was eventually arrested and the baby was taken to the hospital.

Wednesday: partly sunny skies, highs in the upper 20s testimony today in the second public phase of the impeachment inquiry c1 3 quickly turned controversial.

Members of the house judiciary committee heard from four expert witnesses.

As meredith wood reports -- they took us back in time to explain what merits impeachment.

### the house judiciary committee wrapping up a day of marathon testimony ... four expert witnesses -- all constitutional scholars -- appeared before the committee to outline what constitutes an impeachable offense.

Noah feldman/harvard law school: "it wasn't just an abuse of power because the president was serving his own personal interests but also an abuse of power in so far as the president was putting american national security interests behind his own personal interests."

Three witnesses said president trump's actions were impeachable -- one disagreed.

Jonathan turley/george washington university law school: "i believe this impeachment not only fails to satisfy the standard of past impeachments but would create a dangerous precedence for future impeachments but one comment sparked immediate backlash -- pamela karlan/stanford law school: "contrary to what president trump has said, article ii does not give him the power to do anything he wants.

The constitution says there can be no titles of nobility.

So while the president can name his son barron, he can't make him a baron."

Matt gaetz/-r- florida: "when you invoke the president's son ... when you try to make a little joke out of referencing barron trump, that does not lend credibility to your argument.

It makes you look mean."

First lady melania trump condemned the remark ... tweeting in part that karlan -- quote "should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering."

Karlan went on to apologize for the statement.

Pamela karlan/stanford law school: "it was wrong of me to do that.

I wish the president would apologize obviously for the things that he's done that's wrong, but i do regret having said that."

I'm meredith wood reporting.

Next...meet the real-world elves...who help get your holiday packages to loved ones on time.

And... "it allows them to be a kid again" and...kids at kentucky children's hospital save christmas.

A custom "escape room" brought right to them.

You have to see it...next.

Before we know it...christmas will be here...and t an official message from medicare.

Hey, fred, it's medicare open enrollment.

Time to compare plans.

We're fine with what we have.

That's what the johnsons thought until they tried medicare's new plan finder.

The johnsons?

We saved a lot on our prescription costs and got extra benefits.

How 'bout it, fred?

Plans change every year.

Use the new plan finder at medicare.gov.

Comparing plans really pays.

W!

C1 3 for santa claus in just a few short weeks.

Luckily, he has some elves not only at the north pole, but here in kentucky, too.

Abc36's alexus larson introduces us to them.

### it's like its own holiday workshop.

"it's like jenga.

We play jenga everyday."

You have the workers... the toys... and the boxes to send gifts... except this isn't the north pole... and these aren't elves... but they are the people getting packages to you for the holidays.

Jodie culver works at the ups store... and says right now... it's busy with people trying to get their gifts sent.

"it's been really crazy.

It really started like the week of thanksgiving."

Ups calls it their peak season... the time between thanksgiving and christmas.

The company expects to deliver an average of 32 million packages each day.

"are we shipping something out today?"

Culver says now is the best time to send your packages if you want them there by christmas.

She says december 19th is the last day to get it there on time with standard shipping.

"come in right now!"

Her advice... put wrapped presents in a box so they'll stay safe.

If you're using your own box... make sure you put bubblewrap around your gift.

"don't use duct tape, don't use painters tape, those don't hold your boxes well."

Culver says..

Even though it's busy... she's having fun because she's making someone's christmas special.

Reporting in lexington, alexus larson, abc36 news.

### this time of year is hopefully magical for kids, but some families have to spend it in the hospital.

To help them enjoy the season, breakout games brought a christmas themed escape room to kentucky children's hospital.

The game relies on kids to save christmas by finding santa's hat.

13-year-old dalton green gave it a try.

In 20-17, he was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that caused the swelling of his brain and spinal cord tissue.

Today... he says he is doing great and he thinks the game will help families like his.

"well for patients and their families, in order to do this it just, i feel like it allows them to be a kid again and instead of having to do treatment all day long, that they can actually go and be a kid and not have to worry about, "is this going to happen?"

It distracts them from why they're in the hospital."

Everything in the escape room is easily disinfected for each patient.

Kash daniel has played his final snap for the cats at kroger field.

Hear from him on what he'll miss miss the most.

It may have been eleven a-m on a wednesday, but memorial coliseum was rocking for u-k hoops versus charlotte.

Highlights coming up in sports.

After four years playing in c1 3 last time on saturday.

Daniel admitted after the game, his final season where he was expected to be the anchor of that defense hasn't gone as planned.

Even with that, he thanks his teammates for being there for him.

Coach mark stoops and kash both hinted he's been going through some things this season, but they didn't say what.

Even with that, leaving the field to the applause and cheer to solid blue fans...that will be something he never forgets.

We have gone through the statistics...the kentucky defense c1 3 has been stout this year.

And while they lost a lot of key pieces going in to this year, they will return the majority of their top talent for next season.

Defensive coordinator brad white thought early on this defense had a chance to be good.

15th ranked kentucky hosting c1 3 charlotte for education day.

Piece of advice...if you ever want to step up your home court advantage...invite more than one thousand elementary school students.

They were nuts.

Amanda pashal drives and scores.

She finished with 3 points.

Blair green misses.

Rhyne howard with the rebound.

Drives and finishes plus the foul.

She had a game-high 29 points.

Her partner in crime this season.

Sabrina haines catch and shoot from the corner.

Drains the three.

Three of her 16 on the day.

Cats start fast...they led 44 to 22 at half.

That fast start paces them to a 86 to 39 victory over charlotte.

The cats are now 8 and oh.

Preston spradlin and the morehead state eagles hosting i-u-p-u-i.

How about the c1 3 freshman big man...tyzhaun claude making the catch and throwing down the two- handed slam... then more from claude...this time, getting rewarded for running the floor in transition....finishi ng the alley- oop...claude with eight points, six rebounds.

Jordan walker leading the eagles...he drills the deep three to give m-s-u some breathing room....walker with 12 points, six assists.

Morehead state holds on to win 56 to 51.

Final weather anchors ad-lib goodbyes jimmy kimmel is next.
