Rat seen 'looking to escape' horrific garbage-filled car in Seattle

This was the moment a passerby spotted a rat in a garbage-filled van in Seattle on February 12.

Footage shows the rodent chewing on some cardboard while appearing to be pressed against the window due to the waste-filled car.

The filmer explained: "These people near my work camp out at a food bank and have been living in this van ever since I started working there.

"[The rat] is trying to chew away cardboard, while simultaneously looking to escape." According to the filmer: "They take food from the food bank and stockpile it inside of the van.

"A coworker and I were walking to work and found a rat in the back window of the van.

"We have reported these vans to the city of Seattle multiple times but they can’t and won’t do anything because the laws in our city allow people to live like this.

"When there is food that they no longer want they throw it on the sidewalk so the rats and birds can eat it adding to our horrible rat problem in the area.

"I think that it was so dirty in there the rat was trying to escape.

"The homeless crisis is affecting everyone in Seattle."
