A West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School student is at home until further notice after West Lafayette Community School Corporation heard their parent is being tested for the Coronavirus.

After the west lafayette community school corporation heard a parent is being tested for the coronavirus.

Superintendent rocky killion is responding.

News 18's marvin bills shares what he is saying.

"we just wanted to let people know out of precautionary action."

Superintendent rocky killion says the student attends west lafayette junior-senior high school and is not experiencing any symptoms. "we don't have any symptoms being displayed in our schools.

We just wanted to make sure that we just remind people to do the right things."

To ensure that everyone is healthy, the student will not return to school until it's confirmed that no one in the family has contracted the virus.

"we live in a great community where everyone works together, wants to help each other, and we want to protect our kids and so that's the best environment, in my opinion, where we can ensure that all of our kids are going to remain healthy."

Killion says because the family was so open about the situation and followed instructions provided by the cdc, it prevented the possible spread of the virus.

"we thank this family for taking the right steps.

Two, we wanted to show that in taking the right steps it's going to help others."

He says this is information that's important in keeping everyone safe.

"it's not something that is being kept under a bushel, so to speak, but we're making sure that people find out about it.

If we do we'll keep our children, we'll keep our staff, we'll keep our community safe as well."

Killion says they have provided house- keeping with new cleaning products to help combat the virus.

They are ensuring that a deep, thorough cleaning of all areas is being conducted out of precaution.
