It was just about a week before this really hit the united states that you had notified the veterans?

Who had been selected for the may flight.

What was their reaction?

When you then had to delay the flight to august.

Diane shaw "a lot of them understood.

Some of them were actually glad.

They were also disappointed because at that time we didn't have a date for them.

We just had to tell them, it would be a later date and we would get back with them.

A lot of things were left in the open for them.

We just had to reassure them, that they would still be selected for the next flight."

That flight is now scheduled for august 22nd.

One of the things that makes the flight so special is the mail call?

The letters veterans get from family?

Friends?

And*especially strangers.

How can people?

Who maybe have a little extra time on their hands while isolating?

Help with that right now?

Diane shaw "mail call is such a critical part to each veteran's honor flight experience.

Normally, we reach out the schools, churches, and scouts, and they write letters, drawing pictures or coloring pictures.

They send those in for each flight.

Now that the schools are not in session, we are trying to get the word out that we still need those families or schools doing the ?

Learning to participate in operation mail call.

It is a great opportunity being that we are all confined at home.

There are a lot of drawings that parents can pull off the internet for the kids to color and send in for each veteran."

How do they get those letters to honor flight.?

Diane shaw "since our flight isn't until august 22nd, the mail call dropboxes won't be out in public, in the community unitl july 20th.

They will be out july 20th through august the 15th at our normal drop sights.

If they want to go ahead and drop them in the mail to us, we can go ahead and accept those."
