People in need of a meal can begin receiving one Wednesday, thanks to a new partnership.

Lexington families while helping food service workers who have lost their jobs.

Abc 36's alex king spoke with one lexington woman behind the "nourish lexington" initiative.

L3 alexandra: coronavirus in kentucky white alex: "with the covid-19 pandemic... now more than ever food insecure people are struggling to find ways to feed themselves and their families.

Several central kentucky community organizations have come together to create nourish lexington."

Vo: the initiative is made up of furloughed hospitality workers who are now making meals for those who need access to food... while pushing to continue practicing social distancing.

The distribution begins wednesday at foodchain located on west sixth street and whitaker bank ball park.

The ballpark will only serve wednesday through friday, starting at 5-30 p-m.

Food chain executive director, becca self, says this initiative is a real testament to the team kentucky spirit and everyone behind it is proud to move forward.

Sot: becca self: "it feels like a stabilizing effort in the midst of a lot of chaos.

I think there is a lot of turmoil.

It's impossible for me personally to kind of thing forward as to what the coming months or years are going to look like, which is pretty unstabalizing and so the ability to actually get a meal out is such a concrete thing.

That the need to have sustenance is so basic."

Vo: she says this experience for everyone is bringing us back to our roots in a way... making us question... what brings a community together?

Self say's she's found a lot of comfort through this initiative and she's hoping other people involved will find it as something positive to do during a difficult time.
