Tueplo's Farmer's Depot will start back up this Saturday

The big signs spring is here is the opening of the tupelo farmers depot.

The downtown tupelo main street association says it will happen this week, but they are making some changes to protect sellers and customers from the coronavirus.

Wtva's chelsea brown is live with how the farmers depot will be set up on saturday.

The farmer's depot is empty now but starting saturday morning at 6 am people will be able to buy fresh produce.

I spoke with debbie brangenberg the director of downtown tupelo association about how the vendors and customers will remain safe.

Debbie brangenberg- director "squash, fresh flowers, cabbage, we will have peaches."

Debbie brangenberg says vendors will have to wear masks and gloves.

She encourages customers to wear a mask but it is not required.

To maintain social distancing the number of people allowed under the depot will only be 50 percent occupancy.

"it is an open airspace but we are going to adhere because it can get crowded under here when a lot of people come."

Usually there is about 26 vendors, this saturday only about 6 vendors have reserved their spot so far.

"it will be a small market because people are just now getting things in.

But it's a good start."

Vendors will prepackage produce to reduce customers touching products road sound cutstomers have been asking brangenberg when will the farmers depot open back up.

"when we announced that we were opening back up yesterday, we got a huge response."

Brangenberg is asking customers to bring cash for their purchases.

No bills larger than a $20 will be accepted.

Produce prices will be rounded to the closest dollar amount.
