Bibb commissioners look to support pay increases, regardless of budget

Macon-Bibb County commissioners are considering pay increases for county workers.

This comes days after mayor robert reichert ... called for cuts ... because of covid-19 revenue shortfalls.

Today the "operations and finance committee" met for the first time... to discuss the mayor's plan.

Reichert said ... he would not be upset... if the committee developed a different budget.

Commissioner virgil watkins said... the mayor's proposed budget does not account for planned salary adjustments... related to a pay scale study that's underway.

Several committee members agreed... that *temporarily furloughing employees... is better than lay offs.

"i'm not advocating for closing entities, but we need to be looking for us to live within our means."
