The coronavirus kept them apart for months but high school athletes in St Joseph were finally able to get back together on the Southside that use District protocol to stay safe temperature checks hand sanitizer disinfectant spray and being 6 feet apart is the new normal for high school athletes in St Joseph and at Benton high school they are taking the school district mandatory policy seriously to make sure that they are doing their part and having a fleet stay safe while getting back to work out we have every best practice in place every District throughout the state had to come up with the right guidelines and able to you know for us to even do this and when to follow County state public health requirements we've got all those things and place Peyton Bailey who is a multi-sport athlete for the Cardinals says she understands the importance of what the new normal is for summer workout and that the rules implemented by the school district is to help keep everyone safe it's really good to know that the school district you know I was taking extra for cars precautions and then fever checks every day before we get here and before I start working out you know that's how a water bottle or you can't work out and I think that's good just to stay in a precautionary and make sure that nobody is positive old ways of conducting workout could be a thing of the past and for Benton head football coach Kevin Keating to leave these training sessions says that this is new for everyone and Beyond the difficulties they are ready to go no one is ever done this before nobody's ever trained kids using social distancing there's no indoor facilities that also challenging but we're ready for this to start workout in to be able to see and interact with peers and fellow athletes was an overall good feeling it's really nice to be out here hanging out with everyone that I've been gone to school with since freshman year in to see everyone's faces even though it is under restricted conditions is still good to be out here in to get back in I was told when I said it is good to see you guys I have missed you are ready to get back to something that feels like normal to us and it's good to see those athletes back to work at Benton will over at Central they also began their summer training the coaches make sure that the athletes were social distance and followed School District guideline head football coach Reggie Trotter who is directing the workouts says that they are trying to keep everyone safe and that it's good to be back to work we want to be somewhere we're doing as you can see all our coaches are out here we have our Mast and we're trying to make sure your words precautionary is possible it was great to get all these kids back and you know when we haven't seen them since really March 13th for the most part so have them back on campus and give them a chance to get worked out and and get ready for the school year be great and it's really good and all of these workouts are good sign that competition is on the way
