A memorable welcome home in Mason City
A feel-good story in Mason City.

Infected... over half... or 63 percent... have recovered.

Kimt news three's nick kruszalnicki joins us live now with a local man's story of survival ?

"* nick?

Xxx george and katie ?

"* earlier this evening i spoke with ron dannen, who spent five months in several hosptials battling covid?

"* 19.

Tonight dannen is sleeping in his own mason city bed once again.

Xxx "well that was a real shock.

I didn't think that many people would drive by and honk."

Nats: honking "i wasn't expecting that at all.

It's fun seeing everybody that went by."

It was a homecoming ron dannen never could have dreamed of.

After months of battling coronavirus in several hospitals ?

"* he says t felt a little strange being back home.

"just how different it felt, to sit in your own chair and just be comfortable.

That's the main thing.

I just kind of had to settle down for a while."

By his side, through it all, was his wife lee.

"she's been in and out of hospitals since about several days.

Where ever i was she was there."

She says having her family close by and a lot of love from friends and neighbors helped her through her husband's illness.

"everybody sending prayers and their support it all helped a great deal."

Their daughter kiley says there was a time when ron's prognosis looked very grim.

"we went through the talk with palliative care and he knows that.

We had to make the decision on what to do."

She's thankful her dad pulled through... and says he's earned every honk ?

"(?

"( nat?

"(?

"( and well wish.

"he deserves it number one and you cant replace your dad.

I watched him go dannen served in the army during the vietnam war.

He told me some of his battle wounds made his recovery from coronavirus much harder.
