Hill cemetery.

In the meantime, a group led by state representative laura hall wants the madison county commission to break the current monument preservation act and remove the monument now.

But county commission chairman dale strong insists they will follow the law and petition the state for it's removal.

So what's likely to happen?

Joining us now is madison county commissioner jeshenry malone.

Commissioner malone, good morning.

What side do you think will prevail here?

Pay the fine and take it down sooner ... or wait for a state committee to decide?

A petition to the state could take 3 months - depending on when that waiver is submitted to the state - which could be next month.

Do you think people want to wait that long?

What do you think should happen?

State representative laura pointed to examples in birmingham and mobile where both cities must pay a $25,000 fine for breaking the law and taking down statues.

- representative hall says mobile expedited its process by reaching a memorandum of understanding with the state attorney general.

Is that something the madison commission should also look at?
