A petition to the state could take 3 months - depending on when that waiver is submitted to the state - which could be next month.

State representative laura pointed to examples in birmingham and mobile where both cities must pay a $25,000 fine for breaking the law and taking down statues.

- representative hall says mobile expedited its process by reaching a memorandum of understanding with the state attorney general.
