State legislature has passed a bill that would allow for mail-in voting for missouri residents this year.

While the practice has become politically charged in other parts of the country, a local senator who sponsored this bill says it's recieved bi- partisan support.

Reporting nationally the topic of mail-in voting has been a controversial one.the president just this week expressing his disapproval of it at a campaign rally in arizonatrump sot to home, it's a bit of a different story, the missouri state legislature passed a bill with bipartisan support, sponsored by a local senator that will allow for everyone in the show me state to vote by mail in the august and november elections.

Hegeman sot senate bill 631, sponsored by 12th district senator dan hegeman aims to modify provisions related to elections.

Concerns over covid-19 he said prompted the legislature to pass the bill.

Though senator hegeman says it's important to note some of the steps voters would need to take to make sure their ballot is properly cast.

Sot the bill states those who vote by mail this year and are in good health would need to request their ballot in person or by phone and must have it notarized.those in the at risk category of catching the virus would not have to get their ballots notarized and have more options on how they can request it.

Hegeman says the bill is the right mix of security and safety.

Ron johnson kq2 news.>> the legislature passed the bill back in april on one of the two days there were bck in session following the coronavirus pandemic.again the bill is only valid for the august and november elections this year.
