Campgrounds take precautuions in the coronavirus era, but could they close?

Bidwell Canyon Campground at Lake Oroville is asking campers to take simple saftey measures to prevent coronavirus spread but that campground closures could remain a lingering threat with coronavirus cases still growing.

Jumping - you may need to adjust how you camp.

Action news now reporter bryan ramsey went to bidwell canyon campground to check on any changes.

I'm at lake oroville, bidwell canyon campground, in fact, and there are several concerns as you head into your independence day weekend if you plan to camp.

Bidwell canyon is already 100 percent booked for the weekend.

And staff here as well as other state park campgrounds will be taking coronavirus precautions.

Public saftey superintendent aaron wright says they will all be wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

"covid virus numbers going up.

There's always the chance that we'll be told by the governor's office or the public director's office that we'll need to close down a park.

So while we are hoping for the best, i can't, we can't anticipate the future.

I would have never guessed this in 2020.

So, hopefully we'll be open, but i can't promise."

I spoke with a family before i left the campground.

They said they were worried they'd find the campground closed when walk-ins will be unlikely this weekend due to booked campsites, so make sure to book ahead of time if you plan on camping for independence day.
