Jambalaya as americans celebrate the 4th of july, activists across the country countinue to march for equality.

Here in lafayette, protesters decided to spend the national holiday marching for justice.

News15 rain augustine has the story.

"us protesting this holiday will be really signigicant to show them i's time for a change," 19 year old college student kendell simone says the current events happening around the country inspires her to raise awareness within the community "we need to do events like this to show people kendell partnered with the local n-a-a- c-p chapter to ogranize a rally for racial injustice and police brutality.

Devon norman says in order for the black community to advance, concerns need to be heard "we wanted to make sure that the community understands that we want to keep the momemtum going.

We do't want to slow down because things are getting quiet,"the march also gained the support of non- people of color, who say support comes in all races and creeds "the fourth of july is seen by a lot of people as a holiday tha's supposed to celebrate, independence as it is known, but we ca't really celebtrate indepedence if it is not given to every citiizen equally.
