Eugene gets community testing sites

They will have 500 tests, prioritizing essential workers.

Elderly contracting the virus at a higher rate than everyone else... isn't the case anymore.

Today we learned that here in lane county - more young people are getting infected than before.

Chynna - as quickly as this virus is spreading... so is our understanding of it today spokesperson jason davis with lane county public health said that while previously... travel accounted for 10 percent of our cases... it now makes up 20 percent.

He says we are seeing people get the virus from traveling to places like texas... arizona... and california where hot spots are popping up and like you mentioned -- he also said more young people are getting it 52 college aged people in lane county have gotten the virus and 45 percent of cases are in people under 30.

Before the majority of cases were in those ages 30 to 49 only 1 more college aged person was announced today - meaning the spread within that recent cluster of young people infected is slowing davis said there's also some transmission through gatherings - and while it's good to keep your group small that's not always enough "we're seeing a little bit of a disconnect there where folks are reporting that they're having small gatherings, but they're not wearing a face covering and they're not wearing their face covering and we are seeing some cases so i thought it was important to call that out" lane county is also continuing their rural area testing for free with dates set for testing in lowell on the 14th... cottage grove on the 16th... and on a date next week in eugene they will have 500 tests to administer... prioritizing those who have been working through this pandemic so if you go to one of these testing sites... what can you expect?
