Indian villager finds deadly cobra on his TV stand in eastern India

Jagannath Nayak, a resident in a village near Sunabeda in eastern India, found an adult cobra sitting on his TV stand on Thursday (July 16).

Nayak was ready to sit down to watch some TV when he heard an unusual sound.

He switched on the light and approached the stand cautiously only to hear a loud hissing sound coming from behind the TV.

Jagannath quickly left the room and called Snake Helpline for help.

Sujit Kumar Mohanty, a volunteer at Snake Helpline, reached the spot and caught the 4.5-foot-long cobra.

The snake was later released in a nearby forest.

Snake Helpline founder Subhendu Mallik said: "The cobra probably entered the house following a prey and landed on the table.”
