For several hours, cars from across Oregon flooded in and out dropping off items and cash donations.

It was a sight organizers said exceeded their expectations.

Together to show their support for two families who are going through an especially hard time right now.

This comes after a tragic jet-ski accident took the life of one child and left another with life- threatening injuries.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy shows us what today was all about.

Shely: "it's the whole being a neighbor, being a tribe, helping each other through tough situations."

A tragedy.

That has brought the already tight- knit community of sweet home even closer together.

Shely: "what we've seen is humbling and so heartwarming and again if i stop to think about it, i'll cry."

For several hours&*truckloads of bottles, cans and*cash donations were dropped off in the parking lot of o'reilly auto parts... by individuals all over oregon.

The proceeds- benefitting the families of six year olds, zach maynard and kennedy swenson who were hit by a runaway jet ski at foster reservoir, leaving them both with life- threatening injuries on monday.

Kennedy is now home from the hospital but zach did not make it.

Bridge: as you can see behind me this is just one section of the thousands of bottles and cans that have been donated, and it continues to grow higher and higher as the day goes on.

Organizers say seeing this response from the community has been touching.

Shely: "there are people out there who have your back.

There are people out there who care and love you."

Organizers told me that they can turn in*100 bags a day to the bottle drop...so while this is all going to take*weeks to sort..they say it's something incredibly worth it.

Shawn: "anything we can do to help, we will."

One close family friend of the maynard family says this truly shows the strength of a small town.

Shawn: "help a family out.

The family's lost enough.

My personal goal is to make sure they don't see a single cent in doctor bills.

Both families."

To take part, you can*still take your bottles and cans to*any bottle drop in oregon and donating to the ayso region 870" account.

The money will go directly to both families.

And tens of thousands for dollars have already been raised through gofundme.
