Victims in Lauderdale County child abuse, neglect case file $25 million in lawsuits

New details on the civil case against a former alabama foster couple and the state department of human resources.

Three more victims are adding their names to lawsuits seeking in total 175 million dollars.

Daniel and jenise spurgeon were arrested in 2016 in florida and alabama - and charged with abusing foster kids in their care.

Daniel pleaded guilty.

Jenise's trial is supposed to start this year in florence.

Attorney tommy james is representing 7 of the 11 victims in civil cases against the department of human resources, social workers, and the couple.

James said - to have three more victims come forward shows that they want to hold the state accountable.

<they want to send a message that this kind of behavior and dhr not doing thier job that's unacceptable.

They don't want this happening to other children in our state.

There are countless other victims where there aren't criminal charges and children in the shadows.
