March and as weirst toyou yestee to wait even longer for the next season to begin.

The american hockey league announced december fourth as the new anticipated start date for the 2020-2021 regular season to begin - as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Normally the season begins at the beginning of october.

This means the comets will have a nearly nine-month layoff between seasons.

Today we spoke to comets president rob esche to get his thoughts on moving to a december state date and what this season may look like.

Rob esche: there's a lot to pull off a season for everyone obviously; the players, the staff, the fans, there's just a lot of planning and i think putting that stake in the ground allows us the ability to say here's what we're going for...i think we'd all like to get to 76 games...being patient at this time, and making sure the health and safety of the fans, the players, the staff, they all come into play.

Esche said that while safety is paramount - having fans at games would be essential from both an entertainment and financial aspect for a-h-l games.

The league is working with teams on local guidelines to determine a fan policy as the season gets closer.
