Tonight a local school district is preparing for the future.as students around our region get ready for to school to start..homestead high school is working on upgrading its campus in a massive project.fox 55's chris mullooly joins us live outside homestead.chris... how will this affect taxpayers in the area?hunter... there was no referendum or added taxes necessary for this 169 million dollar project to go ahead.its one of the reason school board leaders are excited for it to begin...to a building they say is in need of upgrades.

Trying to make sure we're preparing the district to face challenges of the next 50 years the groundbreaking ceremony held for a 169 million dollar addition and renovation of the high school.president of southwest allen county schools tom rhoades says the main problem is with safety.the inefficiency of the building flow as a police officer i'm always worried about security the new structure of the campus will change that... it'll also bring in a new auditorium... new music center.... and 'collaborative work spaces' for teachers and students.with the designs we have we'll be much better to create a safe and secure place for students and staff, and to parents that's one of the most important factorsin total... 384 thousand square feet of new construction...a step in the right direction for superintendent phil downs.
