Just In Time For School, America Is Facing A Laptop Shortage

The novel coronavirus pandemic quickly began forcing Americans to work from home and many students to attend school remotely.

Unsurprisingly, there was a huge demand for laptop computers.

And with students headed back to school, there still aren’t enough laptops to go around.

According to Gizmodo, consumer tech analyst Steven Baker says sales have been up by twenty to forty percent every week since March.

According to Gizmodo, supply chain shortages are affecting components like displays and processors, further limiting production by Chinese manufacturers.

Some school districts hesitate to loan laptops to at-risk students because of the systemic belief that they are more likely to damage or lose that laptop.

Besides an insufficient number of laptops, students who lack reliable, high-speed internet access are at an enormous disadvantage in remote classrooms. What this means is that the already striking education gap in the United States will continue to expand, ever wider.
