Schools for september.

Losing a loved one to covid-19 is something no one can prepare for.

That's why state health leaders have worked on several ways to make sure you can track the virus.

At 5 o'clock...we told you about a new dashboard for tracking the virus.

Now...news 10's richard solomon tells us about one woman who says it was too late for her family.

But this tool could save someone else.

This is the long term care dashboard that was recently launched by state health leaders.

It helps track covid-19 case numbers in health care facilities.

I spoke with one woman who lost a family member in a facility.

She says this tool could help you save your loved one.

Kandi hayne says she wishes she would've known in time.

"my grandma got dignosed within a week she had passed away.

It could've gotten my grandmother the help she needed" her grandmother sandra goad was a resident at the meadows manor east nursing home in terre haute.

Hayne says her grandmother died from covid-19 on friday.

Her grandmother caught the virus while she was a resident at the nursing home.

"they should've had it sooner.

It probably could've saved her life" for months...different stakeholders like aarp...were asking the governor and state health leaders for transparency when it comes to information regarding care facilities.

And in august the dashboard was released.

It allows families to track the virus and deaths in care facilities across the state.

I spoke with a representative from meadows manor east.

They told me this will help them show numbers and trends in their nursing homes.

Right now the facility is on lockdown.

Meaning no visitors.

If someone does get sick...they're moved to a "redzone" which is specifically designed for the virus.

Hayne says she hopes other families will use this dashboard.

"it's too late for us...um other people may be able to use it and we couldn't" i have this dashboard attached to the web story.
