One local school district is putting the finishing touches on a plan to make sure kids with special needs are successful this semester.

New at 5, action news now reporter dani masten shows us what's in the works.

Hope ericksons says her son is special needs and has additional challenges with his virtual learning experience.

Dani stand up "we know the struggles, but what is it going to take to bring students back to campus where they can get the help that they need."

Sot/on the phone graphic "the cde and california department of public health released some new guidance on being able to start some targeted instruction for special groups and special ed is one of those groups."

Diane olsen is the director of student support services - she has finalized procedures that allows students with special needs to make in- person appointments with their teachers that follows california department of education guidelines.

Olsen is ready to provide this for those students who need the extra help while protecting them from getting covid-19.

And by successful i mean that we don't have any outbreaks and that we know that we have all the safety measures in place for the students for our staff for our families.

And the families are on board with doing their part in those safety measures before they bring the students and then i can grow the program from there."

Olsen said tomorrowãthe procedures will be sent out to staff that have students who match the criteria for appointment based instruction and then will contact parents to set up appointments.
