Members of Strong Hill Baptist Church are helping children with their distance learning.

Church is doing it's part to help families who chose distance learning for their children during this pandemic.

Wtva's alexis jones is live with how church members are ensuring children have a successful school year.

I spoke with one mother who child is apart of the program.

She said it is a blessing to her and other parents.

"its just awesome because we just really didn't know what we were going to do."

Ardrena powell- parent/ volunteer trt: 6 ardrena powell also volunteers at strong hill's center educational program.

Powell said a fellow member, nicole coggins, came up with the idea to host virtual learning at the church.

Coggins wanted to help parents who didn't have access to internet or who work throughout the day.

Sot: "she got with the parents here at the church and asked us what would be beneficial for us."

Ardrena powell- parent/ volunteer trt: 7 powell said member and retired teacher, marry robertson, also got on board.

She says she and robertson help kids from all grade levels with their school work.

The women take temperature checks at the door.

They make sure the kids are spread out and are wearing masks sot: "and make sure that they are meeting the needs that they need to be successful with this virtual learning."

Ardrena powell- parent/ volunteer powell added the west point school district also provides lunch and breakfast for the students.

Powell says members can drop off their children from 7:30 to 1:30.
