We now know the name of the woman who was found shot to death inside a car on turtle creek drive friday.fox 55's brianna dahlquist spoke to a neighbor who said he's shocked that her death happened so close to home.
The allen county coroner says 44-year-old twilah newmon- thomas was found dead just before 11 p.m.
Friday.neighbor don camp-bell says he's shocked that he didn't hear more about her death.don camp-bell:"things happen all over.
I feel pretty safe here but you have to be on the look out wherever you do.
I don't know how she died in her car or what."the coroner says newmon-thomas died of multiple gunshot wounds.bell says it's important for both women and men to always let their loved ones know where they are at all times.
Always try to let someone know and trust where you're going and what's going on with you as far as your health and mental state and so forth.
Dr. jacqueline king - founder and ceo of black women empowered incorporated in fort wayne says women have to be vigilant at all times especially now.
"you really have to be aware of your surroundings because in the age of covid and even before then, people are desperate.
A lot of people don't have jobs.
King says just by being aware of where you are and who may be watching you is a preventive measure when it comes to protecting yourself.
"people are looking for a target.
Someone who they see is not prepared to defend themselves if they were going to rob them or whatever.
So get off the phone, don't text because you need to be looking around from every angle."king says that newmon-thomas' death is a call for action, especially for "we need to come together and come up with a plan as black women.
