Alex King talks with a mother concerned about her local school board election.

Attention aren't necessarily the ones that will have the biggest impact on your day to day life.

The pandemic has taught us how important...school board members are...for example.

Abc 36's alex king spoke with one clark county mother who says she's looking for a board that makes its own decisions...rather than caving to pressure from other counties.

Alex:"while the focus is primarily on the presidential election and local leaders... one thing parents are also having to consider is the school board seats in their county."

Lindsay:"i think that the school board is such a key leadership role in the community."

Lindsay stang has a fourth and a second grader currently completing school work at home.

She says that has been really difficult while she works from home part time with a toddler as well... but she wants her kids to stay healthy.

Lindsay:"i would say even more than ever it's important because they're making the decisions that effect the children, all of the public school attendees, all of the kids that are across our communities."

Stang says there's not one factor that's more important than others... she says there's no doubt how big their responsibility is.

There are three candidates running for the clark county board of education second seat.

Stang says one thing that concerns her is when the officials in clark county follow in the larger counties footsteps... she says their small town already sees it's own set of needs and concerns.

I asked heather penichet for her response to this mothers concern... heather:"i absoutely don't want to follow behind other counties around us blindly.

I do think we can learn from them.

What did they implement for safety?

How did they make adjustments for the six foot rule if their classrooms arent long enough?

What are they doing with the smaller children thata re struggling to stand in line to go to the restroom?"

Penichet says if elected... she wants to get the kids in her district back into the classroom, she also wants to make up for the time lost for the students, and she plans to make some cuts because the district did not take the tax increase this year.

I reached out to the other candidates in the race against penichet but they did not respond.
