Alabama Department of Public Health releases coronavirus vaccine plan
Tv dot com.
Breaking news... in the last hour -- the state released its plan to distribute and administer a coronavirus vaccine once it's available.
The plan consists of 3 phases.
Waay31's megan reyna is in studio to break those down for us, megan?
This plan is to make sure those who really need the vaccine in alabama -- can get it.
Now in phase 1 -- limited doses of vaccine will be available to those at highest risk or highest risk of exposure so for first repsonders and health care workers.
In phase two -- large numbers of doses will be available.
Supply will likely meet demand.
The health department will begin targeting populations who were not vaccinated in phase 1.
Then phase 3 -- the department said there is likely to be sufficient supply -- and all unvaccinated groups will be targeted.
The health department will focus on populations and communities with low vaccine coverage.
This plan was submitted to the c-d-c back on october 16.
And the health department said it could be put into use before the end of the year.
But as of right now -- there is not an approved covid-19 vaccine.
