A multi-sport standout athlete, and 'father' of the Boilermaker Road Race course, died on Nov.

5 at age of 91.

He is a member of the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame.

And the men's team has signed aa legend in the local running community has died at age 91.

Hovey died on november fifth at bassett medical center in cooperstown.

Born in worceter, massachusetts - he came to the area as an adult and made his name known as a fixture in the mohawk valley.

Known as the 'father of the boilermaker' - he designed and measured the now famous race's course prior to its inaugural run in 1977 - and helped it obtain its u-s-a track and field certification.

He also won the race in his age group along with winning five marathons in his career.

((change)) hovey was also a two-time winner of the greater utica men's open golf tournament and was an assistant golf coach at hamilton college.

He qualified for the 1987 senior olympics in speedskating and earned a silver medal in the 15- hundred meter race in lake placid.

Hovey was inducted to the greater utica sports hall of fame in 2002.
