Thurston teacher allegedly sexually abused student, court documents say

After she made her first court appearance... we're learning more tonight about the thurston teacher and coach who police say sexually abused a student for months.

Kezi 9 news reporter emma withrow is live at thurston high school to tell us what she's learning about the suspect?

Lisa defluri had two roles here at thurston high school.

She was the girls basketball coach for the mustangs --- a position she's held since 2018.

But she was also the 10th grade english teacher.

That was until she was placed on paid administrative leave when these allegations came out.

Now instead of being in the classroom shes in the lane county jail facing 10 charges of sex abuse in the second degree.

Court documents released today say there were 10 instances of abuse between july 3 and dec.

1 of this year, where defluri allegedly touched the student and performed sex acts.

I spoke with springfield police sergeant george crolly... who says he has no reason to believe there are other victims out there.

Very happy that once word got out or somebody learned of this happening that it got reported.

While i don't think it's unique to thurston i'm glad that we have somebody within the thurston community is able to speak up and say they heard this and bring it to our attention.

I don't think that always happens.

Crolly said if you or someone you know has been a victim of sex abuse from defluri it is vital you come forward at this time.

Matt and renee... we're not sure if defluri will be able to post bail tomorrow.

The court clerks tell me that will depend on where she lives... and how close she would be to children.
