Google Workers Organize Union Open to All Alphabet Employees.

On Monday, workers at Google announced the creation of the Alphabet Workers Union.

.

The union was launched with the help of the Communications Workers of America.

This means that members of the new union will belong to CWA Local 1400.

The Alphabet Workers Union will reportedly be open to all employees of Alphabet, both full-time and contractors.

.

It is unclear how contractors will be included as they are typically unable to join predominant unions, and instead relegated to parallel freelancer unions.

Union organizer Nicki Anselmo posted a statement online, saying the union will provide a “sustainable structure” for all Alphabet employees.

.

We’ve seen first-hand that Alphabet responds when we act collectively … Our new union provides a sustainable structure to ensure that our shared values as Alphabet employees are respected even after the headlines fade.

Google has since released a statement in response.

We’ve always worked hard to create a supportive and rewarding workplace for our workforce.

Of course our employees have protected labor rights that we support.

But as we’ve always done, we’ll continue engaging directly with all our employees, Google, via Gizmodo
