Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) has received positive nickel-copper results from an extensive regional aircore drilling program which have further enhanced the growing potential of the Rockford project in Western Australia’s Fraser Range. The first assay results have been received from a 291-hole program with anomalous nickel-copper assays from the Hurley prospect and a number of new targets identified in Rockford’s northwest. The company flagged last month an extensive drilling program in its “busiest ever” September quarter, with diamond, reverse circulation (RC) and aircore drilling programs being carried out at Rockford. Aircore results returned The aircore component was completed in late November and results from 195 of the holes have been returned. Several drill holes returning elevated nickel-copper associated with mafic intrusive and metasediment and granulite rock. Mafic, metasediment and granulite rocks are all rich in minerals. Legend managing director Mark Wilson said aircore drilling at the Hurley prospect had further boosted the Rockford project. “We previously identified the Hurley prospect as a priority target from its favourable geophysics, geochemistry and geology. “The anomalous assays returned from the up-dip projection of the H3 conductor in the right host rocks is seen as further enhancement of the prospectivity of Hurley, which is on 100% owned Legend tenure. Diamond drilling will be prioritised there next year. “The three anomalous assays returned in the northwest are validation of our exploration philosophy in using broad-spaced aircore drill programs to identify areas for follow-up aircore drilling and moving loop electromagnetic surveys.” New target areas found Aircore drilling in the northwest part of the project uncovered new nickel-copper targets associated with mafic and ultramafic intrusive rock. “To define three new target areas on such wide-spaced aircore drilling is highly encouraging and validates Legend’s exploration approach in identifying key areas across the Rockford project and defining new drill targets,” the company said. “These new targets will provide newsflow through 2021 in addition to advancing existing target areas.” Aircore drilling is a safe and inexpensive method of exploration drilling that uses compressed air to flush samples out of drill holes. More drilling at Hurley Legend will now employ reverse circulation and diamond drilling at Hurley following receipt of approvals and heritage clearance. A 2021 regional aircore drilling program targeting aeromagnetic and gravity targets across the project will also be designed. - Daniel Paproth
