A scenic fishing village in southwestern England is on its third day under instructions to boil its tap water after a parasite sickened more than 45 people. Around 16,000 homes and businesses in the Brixham area of Devon have been affected after cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite, was discovered earlier in the week. The parasite causes diarrhea that can last more than two weeks. The outbreak is the latest example of Britain’s troubled water system. South West Water has apologized and says the problem may come from a pipe in a cattle pasture. The outbreak also caused a primary school to close.
