Nitish Kumar's virtual rally postponed in view of Covid-19 outbreak, floods: JD(U)
Friday, 31 July 2020 () A much-anticipated virtual rally of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar next week, where he was expected to sound the bugle for assembly polls, has been put off for the time being in view of raging problems of Covid and floods in the state, a top JD(U) leader said here on Friday.
With floods inundating several areas of northern India’s Bihar, the Indian Air Force deployed three of its helicopters to airdrop relief materials in the worst-hit districts.

Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of inaugurating new projects in haste. He said, "On one hand, CM was inaugurating Bangra Ghat Mahasetu in Gopalganj and on the other hand, approach path to the bridge has collapsed. Same path had collapsed 12 days ago also. CM is in a haste to inaugurate new projects, what if lives were lost in this collapse?"

After getting the notification from the Government of India, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered case against Rhea Chakraborty, Indrajit Chakraborty, Sandhya Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Samuel Miranda, Shruti Modi, and others in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's death case. The investigating agency booked 6 accused and others in sections including criminal conspiracy, abetment of suicide, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation. CBI said it is also in touch with Bihar Police. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had sent a recommendation to the Central Government to investigate the case filed in Patna based on the complaint of Sushant's father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty under sections including abetment of suicide on July 25. In Supreme Court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the central government, submitted before a single-judge bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy that the Centre has accepted the Bihar government's request recommending a CBI inquiry into the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Chakraborty seeking directions to transfer the case registered regarding the late actor's death in Bihar's Patna to Mumbai. Tiwari, who reached Mumbai for probe in Rajput case, has been quarantined by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials till August 15.
COVID-19 outbreak has affected small scale businesses across country. Pineapple farmers and sellers in Dimapur's Molvum village claimed that their sales have dropped by 50% due to COVID-19 pandemic. India on August 14 witnessed single-day spike of 64,553 cases and 1007 deaths in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 tally rose to 24,61,191 including 6,61,595 active cases, 17,51,556 discharged/migrated and 48,040 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 samples tested till August 13 stands at 2,76,94,416. Of these, 8,48,728 samples were tested yesterday.

As the probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput intensifies, Union Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has now called for a fair probe into the case. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Editor-in-Chief Shashi Shekhar, Prasad said that the actor's loss is a loss for the nation and not just the state of Bihar. The minister said that he was extremely saddened by the incident and the politics that followed his death. He also narrated an incident when he met the actor at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sushant SIngh Rajput died of suicide on June 14, 2020. The case has now been handed over to the CBI after an open tug-of-war between the Maharashtra police and the Bihar police. Sushant's father has named the deceased actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty in the FIR filed in Patna and accused her of abetment to suicide. He also alleged that there were some fraudulent financial transactions, following which the Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering acase.
