Plan to give Delhi chief secretary extra 6 months: Centre to Supreme court

The Centre on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that it intends to extend Delhi chief secretary Naresh Kumar's tenure by six months and as and when the occasion for a new chief secretary's appointment would arise, a panel of five senior IAS officers would be given to the Delhi chief minister to choose from. Centre stuck to its preference for Kumar, who has been attacked by the AAP government for alleged corruption, even as a bench led by CJI asked why he could not be replaced and suggested that Centre could choose any senior IAS officer of its choice to head Delhi's bureaucracy.
