Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1: India logs 1,226 cases, highest from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh

A total of 1,226 cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in 17 states and UTs, with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh leading. The Centre has asked states to maintain vigilance and comply with surveillance guidelines. The World Health Organisation classifies JN.1 as a Variant of Interest (VOI) with low global health risk. The JN.1 sub-variant of the coronavirus was previously classified as a VOI as part of the BA.2.86 sub-lineages that is classified as a VOI.
