(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, April 29 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced Thursday, the decision to postpone the legislative elections scheduled for May 22, until the participation of Jerusalem is guaranteed."We have decided to postpone the date of holding the legislative elections until the participation of Jerusalem and its people in these elections is guaranteed, so that Jerusalem and its people will not give up, nor do we give up the right of our people in Jerusalem to exercise their democratic right," Abbas said in a statement read on the (official Palestine) TV after a meeting of the leadership."We have made great efforts with the international community in order to oblige the occupying force to conduct them in Jerusalem, but these efforts have been rejected so far, and if they agree after an hour, we have no objection," he added.Abbas stressed that it had been confirmed previously that holding the elections must include all Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, in term of candidates, voting and electoral propaganda.The Palestinian leader stressed that he will work to form a national unity government that adheres to international decisions, work to achieve unity, end division, achieve reconciliation, continue peaceful resistance, strengthen the PLO and its institutions, strengthen Palestinian Arab and international relations, and call the Palestinian Central Council to convene as soon as possible.
