MLB's crackdown on the use of foreign substances by pitchers began Monday with New York Mets ace becoming the first pitcher checked randomly by umpires. Following his 1-2-3 first inning, they inspected his hat, glove, and belt. The NL Cy Young frontrunner passed with flying colors.
