International Relations Sour Between China, Canada As Canadian Issued Death Penalty

A Canadian man is to be executed in China for drug smuggling.

According to Reuters, the sentencing in a Chinese court on Monday prompted Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to accuse China of using the death penalty arbitrarily.

The ruling could make relations between Beijing and Ottawa even worse, following the arrest of a senior Chinese executive of Huawei in Canada and China’s subsequent detention of two Canadians.
