CIC hockey new hottest rivalry take center stage at Ben Boeke, Girls Hockey Championship, Yukon Quest kicks off in Canada and both UAA basketball teams in action at home.

Rivals, it's alwasy been based on proximity and less on history.

But that was not the case this evening, as the two face off for c-i-c hockey championship.

-- this game a hot ticket estimating a thousand fans at ben boeke for this one.

-- chugiak's high flying offense taking center stage, andrew beckets hail mary finds zach krajnik, mustangs strike first.

-- chugiak would then extend their lead 2-1 into the third.

-- krajnik with the puck again and looks like he is going to score another....but no worries john hammer is there to clean it up.

4-1 is your final chugiak grabbing its second straight c-i-c crown.

-- in the first period, the mavericks just picking apart the uaa the defense zeb knutson finds the back of the net 1-0 minnesota.

-- later in the first brad mcclure goes glove side beating oliver mantha 2-0 mavericks -- minnesota goes on to win it five to nothing as the seawolves saturday woes continue.

--this one a goaltending battle both teams just notching one goal in regulation with shots on net nearly even for either side.

--alaska returns home for games wednesday... thursday... friday against utah.

The yukon quest sled dog race kicking off in white horse today, defending champ hugh neff was the first to braeburn checkpoint around 9:45 with all 14 dogs..

-- the braeburn checkpoint is about 100 miles down the trail.

-- behind neff is jess royer, yuka honda, ben good and allen moore.

-- next checkpoint after baeburn will be carmacks in 73 miles.

-- earlier this week trail coordinators told mushers trail conditions do look to be favorable, but have open water and below average snow pack.

This season uaa men's basketball is undefeated at home, while the seawolf women have yet to lose conference game all season.

Both teams putting that to the test today at home.
