A troubling but heroic incident saw villagers carry a sick elderly man in a makeshift stretcher for 10km uphill, to take him to hospital in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

The incident happened on February 13 in the village of Kuna, Sirmaur district.

Footage shows men carrying the sick man wrapped in blankets while other locals trailed behind.

According to reports, due to a lack of adequate infrastructure and connectivity of roads, they couldn't take him to the hospital on a vehicle.

Reports also state that the construction of a 10 km road from Badol village to Kuna was planned in 2015, but thus far only two kilometres have been built.
