It will help officers stay healthy while serving their community

Kimt dot during the pandemic?

It's critical emergency responders stay healthy so they can keep serving our communities.

An effort in our area is helping.

Kimt news three's annalise johnson joins us live now to explain.

Xxx katie?

Hand sanitizer isn't just hard for the average shopper to come by... police departments are having a tough time finding some.

Up until monday?

The austin police department was very low on hand sanitizer... but now?

Thanks to donations from a local church?

A local chemical company?

And state legislators?

The department now has enough for officers to keep bottles in their squad cars.

Austin police chief david mckichan tells me officers don't always have access to sinks to hand wash while out on the job?

So the sanitizer is a big help.

Xxx to be able to come back, have a hand sanitizer product that they can put on immediately after a call, lets them lessen the risk that they're gonna touch something in the squad car, pass it along to another officer, touch the steering wheel, or a couple minutes after clearing a call, touch their face while the department greatly appreciates these donations?

The austin police chief does want to let the public know it is*not soliciting donations from the public.

Any sanitizer you have at home for your family?

You should keep.

Live in rochester annalise johnson?

Kimt news 3./// thank you annalise.

The austin police department is waiting for a hand sanitizer order to come in?

But the donations will tide them
