Governor holcomb says yes and now locals in chicago looking to get in a round of golf during the pandemic are crossing state lines to do so.

Golf courses have remained open in indiana throughout the coronavirus pandemic... and golfers are taking full advantage.david says: "there were some things that were thrown out originally when we went to the stay-at-home order that the governor's office kind of said, you know, here are kind of the basics."

From the beginning of the stay-at- home order in indiana... golf courses were deemed essential by governor eric holcomb.

And now they're seeing an increase in golfers from neighboring states... like illinois, where courses are closed.david says: "i went down there a week ago saturday and there were people everywhere.

Now they were practicing social distancing, but there were probably more people there than we'll see on a weekend in july.

And i just think there's so much pent-up desire to get outside and to do something."

There are social distancing rules and place at the courses that have remained open.the course we visited asked to remain anonymous to avoid overcrowding...so the proper safety measures can be taken.

David says: "they're sanitizing the carts, you know obviously after every use.

Flag sticks are not being touched.

Rakes have been pulled from the golf course.

So eliminating as many touch points as they possibly can.

And i think if courses do that, then it's really a pretty safe environment."back in illinois, governor pritzker said he is looking into the possibility of reopening golf courses...but no timeline or decision has been made.
