City Council special meeting topics

On June 23 the Chico City Council organized a special meeting.

Only topics on the agenda could be discussed or voted on during the meeting.

The Mayor and Vice Mayor's police reform plans and policy changes were also in question.

Right now the chico city council is holding a special meeting on a possible tax increase.

How much is the proposed tax hike??

The proposed half cent sales tax will give the city about $9 million dollars.

The city is expecting a $6 million dollar budget shortfall next year.

Some city leaders say the people of chico don't need a new sales tax - especially n the middle of a pandemic.

But others tell me this new sales tax could more than make up for that loss.

Sales tax increase is a general tax increase that increases city revenue by about $18 million dollars as a general tax its utilized for general and essential services.
