That arrest affadavit.

Another twist in trying to remove a confederate monument in the shoals.

The city of florence told lauderdale county commissioners it wants a resolution in writing before voting to move the monument.

Waay 31's breken terry is live outside the courthouse where that monument currently stands i am going to walk everyone through this as simply as possible.

Florence city council members told me they want written permission to come on this county property and relocate the statue.

City council members also want that resolution to say if anything breaks while moving this the city isn't liable.

I called county commission members who told me there is no need for a resolution in writing.

Members showed me this letter the commission sent florence mayor steve holt earlier this week.

I asked holt why that's not enough.

Years down the road when you have a different commission and a different city council and somebody may dispute what was done or question what was done they need and we need the documentation saying here is what we did.

Me: got ya so yall just want all of your bases legally covered.

Holt: yes, and that's a reasonable request and something that should be a very simple resolution by the county.

The city wants to vote on moving the monument july 7th.

But won't until county commission approves that written resolution which likely won't come before then.

Florence is taking the lead on moving the monument because earlier this week, the told the county it was a gift to the city.
