Lane County continues collaboration with UO campus to monitor cases

The University of Oregon's Eugene campus currently has 29 positive COVID-19 cases.

To 10.

In tonight's team coverage -- how coronavirus put a stop to a local 4th of july baseball tournament.

Also... the coin shortage has made its way to lane county.

But we begin with kennedy dendy -- to tell us how local health officials are working with the u of oh... as they fight a cluster of cases on campus.

Kennedy?

Covid-19 cases have risen here at the u of o.

And i asked spokesman jason davis today about what the county communication has been like with the university..

He told me, it been daily, if not hourly.

Public health officials spoke very highly of the collaboration with the u of o, as questions from*many have circulated about what fall term will look like.

I told that the u of o partnered with mckenzie willamette to increase testing, so they can prepare for a safe return to campus for all.

And the county is also working hand in hand with u of o experts to help with contact tracing, to find out the best way to isolate the virus.

"along the way, every step of the way, the uo has been present and really not only for their own benefit for preparing for students coming back but also really helping us and the whole community out with expanding testing and getting a better picture of what covid looks like in our community."

Davis says that the college-aged cluster is one of the major trends the county has noticed.

This includes individuals in their late teens to early 20s, and much of the transmission has been from house parties and other gatherings where social distancing was not present.

He says 51 individuals are in those clusters, with 85 exposures who are being isolated.

These cases are still something public health is actively monitoring, but the good news is that it appears those cases are starting to slow down.
