Local families are figuring out how to navigate back to school amid the coronavirus pandemic... from virtural learning, to extra-curricular activites... familes have a lot of questions... dr. ed nichols superintendent for the madison city school district joins us now to talk more about the issue.

Dr. nichols... today you held the annual institute day to kick off the school year for teachers and staff... this year, because of the pandemic it was held virutally... what is the most important message you shared with teachers and staff today?

What are some of concerns that teachers expressed?

What feedback did they give you about the virual learning program?

How is the process going in terms of training teachers on virtual learning?

Today governor kay ivey extended the "safer at home order" and expanded the mask requirement to schools.

What is your perspective on the mask requirement in schools?

What is the plan if a teacher has a pre-existing condition or is vulnerable to the coronavirus and dosn't feel comfortable going back into the class room?

Sports has been a big topic of conversation... some parents say they don't understand why it's okay to play sports but not return to the class room..

What is your perspective on that situation?

What accomodations will be provided to students with limited internet access?

Anything else that would be important for us to know tonight?
