City of Chico helping restaurants expand outdoors

City officials began installing safety barriers near restaurants to help them expand their outdoor dining areas.

The city installed them this morning.

Chico public works posted pictures of all the places around town where they put up these barriers to get ready for the outdoor cafes here in downtown chico.

The post says local building contractor "slate and sons" donated the barriers to help save local businesses money and help them have these spaces to seat people outside.

Restaurants still have to fill outtheir outdoor cafe permits but these are helping speed the process up.

Last month the city of chico issued an emergency order temporarily expanding outdoor dining at existing food establishments, allowing them to utilize private common areas as well as public space and sidewalks.
