Changes made to car rider line at Ackerman Elementary

Parents who drop their kids off at Ackerman Elementary School will have to follow a new procedure.

The principal said more students are riding with their parents to school this year to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

But there are some new rules they have to follow.

Hundreds of students at ackerman elementary school are riding to class with their parents.

Principal samantha kelly said the increase in car drop offs comes from the fear of riding the school bus during the pandemic.

((sot)) "alot of students have changed from riding on the bus to now parents dropping them off in cars and that's just for safety concerns."

Samantha kelly-principal, ackerman elementary school about 92% of enrolled students opted for in-person classes...the number of students who arrived at school in the car-rider line doubled.

"we're looking at about 350 was our last count of students that's re actually coming through the car rider line.

Which leaves about 100 kids on the bus so that a great difference from what we had last year."

Principal kelly said students have to follow some new rules...including wearing a mask when they get out of the car.

Now staff is checking their temperatures even when they're late to class.

"we also check temperatures as they're getting off the bus too, so kid that actually has a fever is able to join us on campus."

If any student has a temperature over 100, principal kelly said staff will send the student to an isolation building on campus.
