Hopkins county preparing to welcome students back to the classroom---and covid-19 is front and center of discussion.

44news reporter valerie lyons - takes a look at how the district is keeping students focused on the fall.... school is set to begin -- wednesday for hopkins county students and covid-19 concerns are front and center.

The county school board discussed the virtual start to the year and the fate of high school fall sports.

Students will log in -- for a week of virtual learning -- to begin the term.

Before a soft opening after labor day.this will allow 25% of students to return to the classroom one day a week classes begin.

One hopkins county student is eager to return to the classroom.?i feel like we should just be able to go back to school because some people don have other people to watch their kids and they don all have internet to access online school, so i feel like we should just be able to go back?

Superintendent deanna ashby says --- this structure will help to keep students safe them time in school.

"theye studied the models, theye talked with the health department, theye looked at other districts and their progress and theye listen to a lot of parents and community members and i think that they feel very good about the plan that they have passed and i feel confident with it as well?

And the push to return -- extends to the field.

Governor beshear -- saying he likely*wouldn't over turn the k-h-s-a-a guidelines -- for a season.

"i think that theyl listen to the discussion and recommendation tonight and make a decision probably along those lines?

The board also -- making sure families know --- they have the option to continue online -- for the entire semester -- if they choose.
